Los Gigantes
A compact west-coast base below Tenerife's giant sea cliffs, with boat trips, black-sand swimming and easy access to the Teno side of the island.
Los Gigantes is built around a marina at the foot of the Acantilados de Los Gigantes. Tenerife's official tourism site describes the cliffs as part of Teno Rural Park and reaching up to about 600 metres above the sea in places. The scale is much easier to appreciate from the water than from the streets below.
The resort itself is small and quieter than Costa Adeje or Playa de las Américas. It works best for travellers who value sea views, boat access and a relaxed base more than nightlife, shopping or a huge choice of attractions.
Cliffs, boats and the water
The marina is the practical centre of a visit. Whale- and dolphin-watching trips, coastal excursions and other marine activities depart from the Los Gigantes area, making it one of the island's easiest places to pair a boat trip with a low-key resort day.
Playa de Los Guíos sits below the cliffs. The official tourism listing describes it as a small urban black-sand beach, around 180 metres long, with generally calm water, restaurants nearby and bus access, but no dedicated parking. Sea conditions can still change, so follow local flags and barriers.
See the cliffs before you descend
Mirador de Archipenque, above the coast on TF-454, gives a useful overview of the marina, resort and cliffs. Tenerife's official listing notes parking and accessible viewpoint facilities. It is particularly good late in the day, when La Gomera can be visible beyond the water.
Car and bus both work
Los Gigantes is in Santiago del Teide municipality on the west coast. A car makes onward exploration of Teno and other small western towns easier, while TITSA buses make the resort viable without one. Check the current TITSA planner for your exact origin and return time rather than relying on old route numbers.
Drivers should expect steep gradients and tighter streets near the centre. If you are only visiting for a boat trip, leave extra time for parking and check-in instead of aiming to arrive at sailing time.

Day trip or several nights
For sightseeing, half a day can cover the viewpoint, marina and beach, while a boat trip naturally turns it into a fuller day. For a stay, two or more nights make sense if you want a quieter west-coast base and plan to explore nearby Teno, Masca or marine excursions.
- ✓Book popular boat departures ahead in busy periods, but verify operator credentials and current departure details.
- ✓Do not quote old cliff-height figures of 800 metres; Tenerife's current official tourism material says up to about 600 metres.
- ✓Wear shoes with grip if your day includes rocky coastal access or viewpoints beyond the resort streets.
- ✓If swimming matters, check sea conditions rather than assuming the sheltered appearance guarantees calm water.
