The Short Version

Our take

Because the south coast rarely dips below the high teens even in January, there isn't really a "bad" time to visit for weather alone. If you want to avoid crowds and higher prices, aim for shoulder months (April–May or October–November). If you're chasing guaranteed warmth for a winter escape, December to February is the classic choice — and also the busiest.

Worth flagging separately: February also brings Carnival de Santa Cruz, one of the largest carnival celebrations in the world, which is a strong reason to visit that month specifically if the event itself appeals — though it also means accommodation books out early and prices in and around Santa Cruz rise accordingly.
